MoonMix Studios Recording & Mastering is the creation of Mark Forman, whose expertise in audio recording dates to 1977. Mark is a graduate (& honor student) of Lyons Technical Institute for Audio/Radio Electronics; and enrolled in continuing studies at the Recording Institute of Detroit. He is also a seasoned studio musician and performer, dating to 1966; and has been recording and mastering digitally since 1999. Our mission at MoonMix Studios is to assist the independent artist in achieving stardom...(or at least make good money)...utilizing the following two-fold premise:

Recording Philosophy: CLOSE mic'ing of instruments & vocals...in a LARGE room w/ good acoustics...using the HIGHEST QUALITY microphones, preamps & digital converters available. The first part of this philosophy should be known as the 'Abbey Road' (or...'Anti-Vocal Booth') theory. The world's best recordings have always been tracked in a big space with the microphones in close proximity to
the source. This gives the recorded signal two advantages: 1) Depth of Detail, a more open sound characterized by an 'up front' presence; & 2), it captures the natural ambience of the space. This technique has the effect of placing the listener in the room
w/ the music; & in actuality sounds louder than controlled methods in a smaller acoustic space. [Sadly, it is missing in many of today's recordings.] The second part of our philosophy is self-explanatory...use the best equipment available for this task. By utilizing
industry-classic microphones, award-winning preamps and mastering grade digital/audio converters...&...by maximizing the number of discreet output channels going directly to hard disc...we can give the artist a more detailed & transparent sound than recording through a coventional mixing console (w/ their typical limited number of dedicated outputs).

Mastering Philosophy: Finalize the tracks with sonic clarity, detail, punch and level optimization...using the finest EQ, compression & signal processing production software designed...AND...the artist's direction for the sound they wish to achieve. If the artist has a specific sound in mind for their music, or needs our input as to how their mix should sound, we will tailor their mastering to that model.
